Trooper Lu’s Garage (Sydney) – everything you need in a bike shop

(Posted 20 September 2010)

TrooperDropped in to see Justin and Simone and the rest of the Trooper Lu crew last week and came away very impressed. They have been advertising their new shop in VMX for a while now and they’re really picking up speed.

As well as providing a full workshop service and all the usual accessories, tyres and clothing, they are also an agent for Husqvarna, MV, TGB and Ural (and soon Moto Guzzi as well). One of their specialities is custom suspension work as they have a ton of knowledge in this area as well as all the right service gear.

Justin was a police officer for fifteen years but has ridden and raced bikes since
he was four. He started on a GT80 back in 1976 and progressed though a string of YZs and ITs and still rides and races. As Justin told me “I started this business as I felt there was an opportunity to provide a first class service, good customer support etc, without all of the frilly overheads which drive up price, Our business motto is `A way of life' and for us it really is.” Oh, and how did they get that business name “The name of our business is after my children, Trooper - 2yo son and Louella, my 4yo daughter.”

Also in the workshop is Mark Pritchard, who has been a motorcycle mechanic for
over thirty years.

Very few bike shops these days will work on old bikes/engines, so if you need a bottom end rebuilt (which is why I was poking my head in the door) or want a complete restoration done (like the Ducati trail model in the photo, with Justin) then a trip to Trooper Lu’s would be a great idea. Or give them a call, just be sure to use the number below (recently changed due to some service-provider problems!) and not the number in any of the VMX ads up to and including Issue 43).
