Legends all ready for action in
South Oz

At the final round of the South Australian Motocross Titles on the 7th of September, there will be an exhibition event featuring many of the Legends from the ‘70s and ‘80s.

The meeting will be held at Gillman (outskirts of Adelaide) and confirmed Legends who will be riding include Darryl Willoughby, Ray Robertson, Don Bowey, Gregg Toyama, Terry Wigzell and likely a few more!  Each of those named riders has won South Australian Motocross Titles in years past.

It will be sensational to see these guys back out on a motocross track (on period machinery of course) so go along and enjoy the moment.  If you have any further enquiries please contact Ray Robertson at ray@sadirtbikes.com

The Great Move of 2008

As many of you know, VMX columnist and dirt bike Legend, Rick ‘Super Hunky’ Sieman, spent many a year living in Baja, Mexico. There was plenty of freedom and plenty of places to still go dirt bike riding. Due to a number of reasons, Rick and his wife Tina made the move to Arizona earlier this year and due to some health issues, they recently had to move again. This move was even harder but thanks to a group of dirt bike riders it all went smoothly in the end. We’ll let Rick take up the story. Read more…

Caption Contest

How would you like to win a two year subscription and a stylish VMX cap? The photo at right appeared in Issue 33 in Chris Malam’s British Soil column and it’s screaming out for a caption. Chris snapped Polly (yes, that’s the geezer on the left) gingerly placing his hand on Elise’s thigh, while she’s sitting astride the ‘Dick Do’ Maico at the UK Dirt Bike Show last December. Polly doesn’t quite seem to know what to think, so, over to you - just what is Polly about to say! Click on the photo to view larger.

Send your entries to ken@vmxmag.com.au titled Caption Contest and we'll decide the winning caption by the end of April and announce it here. The winner will also be advised directly via email.

Bultaco at Dakar

Our friend Ignacio Chivite, who was featured in VMX Magazine in Issue 31 punting his Bully across the desert in the Pyramid Rally, is just back from successfully completing the Dakar Heroes Legends Rally.  We’re not sure if Ignacio is undertaking these quests a) because he’s completely mad or b) as a way of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Bultaco brand.  He seems to think the latter.  Here’s the report he sent us recently – make up your own mind! Brad Lackey gets his own wine label

VMX columnist, Brad Lackey, is very partial to the occasional bottle of wine. Seems fitting then that they've stuck him on a label. Commemorating his 25th anniversary of being crowned the world 500cc MX champion, Sonoma Valley Wines have released a limited quantity of Bad Brad Cab Sav! Aged for two years in French oak barrels, the Brad Lackey 25th Anniversary Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is available online here. Get in before Brad drinks it all, he can be a very thirsty lad sometimes.

Web Wonders

Just a nudge to some great follow-up websites relating to some stories that have featured in previous issues of VMX. Alain Goffart helped us with the article on Joel Robert in the last issue and his website has a load of further info and photos on other legends and also some great bikes — go to www.agmotocross.be and check it out. Also, have a look at a few of Marcello Grigorov’s websites (he helped out with the Puch story) at www.six-days.org www.registrozundapp.org and www.registrohercules.org although be advised that not all the text on all those sites is in English.
