Australia’s premier vintage and classic dirt bike event is on again over the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend, 11-14 June 2010 at Green Park, Conondale, SE QLD.
The verdict seemed to be in, even before CD6 had finished, that Conondale had been the best venue so far for Classic Dirt. The wonderful natural terrain grass tracks, the facilities, the food, the bikes, the people…….it was a winner! That’s before you included the wonderful support of the local host club, the Sunshine Coast Motorcycle Club. Even with four hundred and thirty riders, the weekend just ran like clockwork. Yes, that’s a lot of riders, but having multiple tracks (and acres and acres of space for all of them and their friends to camp) meant that it never really seemed too crowded – but it did provide a brilliant atmosphere!
Here’s a reminder of the dates, times and directions.
When: June 11-14 (Friday-Monday) 2010
Where: Green Park, Maleny-Kenilworth Rd, Conondale, South-East Queensland.
Directions: Green Park is approximately an hour inland from the Sunshine Coast and the nearest township of note is Maleny. Please see the map on these pages for directions.
A full schedule will appear (timetable for each day) under in the next update, under News and Events CD7, but the abridged version is as follows –
Green Park will be open all day Friday, with full catering all day. There will be no riding on the Friday however you can organise and purchase your wrist bands for riding on Saturday and Sunday.
Friday night will be Film Night, with a great selection of classics on hand.
Ride your heart out! There’ll be riding sessions all day (remember, there is NO RACING at CD7) and there will be two motocross tracks, a vintage enduro loop and a trials section. One of the motocross track will be the Shannons Insurance track for Pre ’75 bikes (and Novice riders on any bike up to ‘84) while the other will be for all later model bikes, up to 1984 only of course. The day will also feature the Engineered Environments ‘Legends Laps’ segment after lunch, where you will get to see a host of Aussie Legends, doing a few demo laps to show you how it’s really done.
Early Saturday evening will see some of the Legends take centre stage for a Q & A session. There’ll also be a short trivia quiz with some great prizes from Suzuki and other companies. Catering will of course be on hand Saturday evening, for all your food and drink requirements (beer will be available from the canteen as well). After that it’s time to boogie, with the band on hand to belt out a few familiar numbers from the ‘70s and ‘80s. The Saturday evening entertainment is kindly sponsored by Wiltec Industries.
More riding of course, again with an Engineered Environments Legends Laps session after lunch. All tracks will be open all day. Those who want to camp overnight and leave Monday morning can do so.
Monday: The event officially closes at noon Monday and the site must be completely vacated by this time. There is NO riding on the Monday.
New for CD7 will be a display in a marquee adjacent to the main VMX ‘tent’, highlighting as many models of a particular brand that can be found. This year, we’re putting Suzuki ‘On Show’, so look forward to seeing a display of most of Suzuki’s off-road lineup, up to 1985, all in one spot.
At CD6, the lineup of Legends was sensational. Anthony Gunter, Stephen Gall, Mark Pace, Peter Ploen, Geoff Ballard, Laurie Alderton, Glen Bell, Andrew Bailey, Matt Daley, Phil Eldridge, Geoff Udy……..and on it went! You can expect a few new faces for CD7 as well, so come prepared to see them all in action during the Legends Laps, after lunch on both Saturday and Sunday.
As mentioned, there’ll be two motocross tracks. The Shannons Insurance Pre ’75 (and Novice riders on any era to ’84 bike) track will be a reasonably flat circuit with no jumps. If you want somewhere smooth to go and play with your old beast then this it – no later model bikes will be allowed on this track. This track will be longer than last year’s Pre ’75 track.
The main motocross grass track will be laid out especially for CD7 and will be another of those rolling natural terrain circuits that have made Conondale famous.
There will be a marked vinduro loop and this will be open to bikes that are equipped with a headlight and tail light only – motocross bikes will not be allowed on the vinduro loop.
Trials bikes will be catered for as well, with an area laid out in the creek bed. This area will be for Trials bikes only.
All of these tracks will be set out in the program that you receive on arrival, including entry and exit points.
The event will be fully catered on-site by the Conondale School P&C, for breakfast lunch and dinner on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They cooked up a storm last year and everyone was impressed with both the range of great food on offer and the prices. Beer will also be available for sale at the venue.
Camping will be available at the venue. While basic (there’s no powered sites for example) there will be sufficient showers and toilets. Cost for camping for the weekend is $25 per car. If you’d prefer to stay off-site then there is ample accommodation in the surrounding area – Bed and Breakfast, Motel, Hotel, Cabins, Caravan Parks – and these can be viewed at the Blackall Range Business and Tourism Association website www.brbta.com
If you prefer, you could also choose something on the Sunshine Coast (an hour away).
Suzuki Australia will have a selection of their current model off-road bikes to test on both days. These test rides will occur on the main track, at any time there are general riding sessions. This is a fantastic opportunity to sample some of Suzuki’s finest!
The swapmeet will run Friday to Sunday and there will be no better opportunity to access other vintage dirt bike enthusiasts than at CD7 – so start loading up the trailer with those parts that are sitting idle under your bench. Some people prefer to sell items from their camping spot, however there will be a specific area for the swapmeet. There will be no charge for private sellers in the swapmeet area but there will be a fee for commercial sellers. Contact email@example.com for pricing.
Some entry prices are STILL at the same rate as that for CD3, CD4, CD5 and CD6 and as before, entry includes a free souvenir, full-colour program.
