Which bike, which issue?

Suzuki Classic Dirt 5

Friday/Saturday/Sunday—25/26/27 April 2008

CD5 timetable now available here

We’re still recovering from putting on CD4, but, seeing as you all had such a great time, we thought we had better let you do it all over again, and soon. Not only that but we thought we’d give most of the punters an easier drive. Yes folks, Classic Dirt 5 has moved to NSW. Download the flier here.

What else has changed you may ask? Nothing major, we assure you, as we don’t want to mess with the biggest and best classic dirt bike event in the southern hemisphere, so you can still look forward to—

  • hours and hours of track time each day with NO RACING as in past years, on a very vintage-friendly track
  • more parts in the swapmeet than you can poke a stick at
  • trade stands
  • a selection of current model Suzuki dirt bikes to test ride
  • on-site camping
  • full catering at reasonable prices
  • sufficient shower/toilet facilities
  • lots of Aussie dirt bike legends
  • a dedicated trials area

Plus, seeing as so many of you just couldn’t wait for the event to start on the Saturday (and turned up on Friday) at CD4, this time we will have a ‘Welcome BBQ’ on the Friday afternoon. That just happens to be Anzac Day, not only giving you an ‘extra’ day to travel, but also ensuring there’ll be plenty to celebrate when you arrive. It will be a great opportunity to get to know everyone else, before the riding kicks off on Saturday morning.

Remember, the event caters ONLY for dirt bikes built prior to 1985. Motocross, enduro, trail, trial, minibike—it doesn’t matter, bring them all along!!

When?

Friday/Saturday/Sunday—25/26/27 April 2008

Where?

Barleigh Ranch, Raymond Terrace, NSW

Let’s stop right there for a minute, as I hear some of you say “Ah, can be a bit rocky, and the facilities are a bit average and...” Well, not any more. If you haven’t been to Barleigh Ranch very recently then you won’t recognise the place. The new lessee of the complex has poured in significant amounts of time and money and it is like chalk and cheese — a far better track surface, much more open space for camping/parking, more facilities, landscaping, the lot — we’re convinced it will suit CD5 to a tee.

Directions

Barleigh Ranch is located about ten kilometers north of Raymond Terrace and is roughly two hours north of Sydney. Coming from the south, i.e Raymond Terrace, on the Pacific Highway, you need to turn left at Italia Rd (the turn—off will be signposted), then left again after a few hundred metres. That’s it, you’re there! Coming from the north, go about fifteen kilometers past Karuah, look for the signs and turn off to the right into Italia Road, then left after a few hundred metres, to the track.

 Joel Robert

As you have seen in the flyer, six—time World MX Champion Joel Robert will be attending CD5. It is Joel’s first visit back to Australia since 1972 and he, and his wife, are really looking forward to meeting everyone. We’re sure you will give them a big Aussie welcome! Joel has agreed to do some demonstration laps on Saturday and Sunday so yes, you will definitely get to witness one of the best motocross riders the world has ever seen. Naturally, Joel will be piloting a RH or RN works replica Suzuki.

Legends Laps

The weekend will also play host to many other Legends from years past and the whole Legends segment each day will be considerably ‘ramped up’ from CD4. More interviews, more track time, more interaction — it will be BIG.

Accommodation

There is ample accommodation in several towns surrounding the Barleigh Ranch complex, including of course Raymond Terrace itself, which is only ten minutes from the track. The seaside resort areas of Port Stephens/Nelson Bay are also only a short distance from the venue.

As well, camping will be permitted at the venue for a small fee (see all fees below). The camping area will be adjacent to the track and adjacent to the main VMX/Suzuki area. Showers and toilets will of course be available but are reasonably basic. No open fires are permitted on site.

Fees

Some entry prices are STILL at the same rate as that for CD3 and CD4 while others have increased slightly and as before, entry includes a free souvenir, full-colour program.

One Day Ticket - Family $30

Catering

Full catering, commencing Friday, will be available on site and will be provided by the venue, not an external caterer. Prices will be reasonable and there will be a selection of outlets. Alcohol will be available on site in the evening, again at reasonable prices.

Swapmeet, Trade Stands, Sponsorship Packages and Program Advertising

As with CD4, only businesses requiring a swap meet stand will incur a fee. Private swapmeet sellers do not need to pay.

Prices for Trade Stands, commercial Swapmeet bays, Sponsorship packages and Program advertising will be finalized soon. Please contact Alistair Johnson by email Alistair@vmxmag.com.au or by phone on 02 9801 2499.

Still to come—and a few other details

Keep an eye on the News and Events section of the website for further details on the schedule of events for each day (including the Saturday evening entertainment) and other updates. Also please note:

Juniors

Unfortunately there is no provision available, due to the very full program and lack of suitable space, for riders UNDER 16 to ride over the weekend. There are loads of events for Juniors to ride or race all year round but this vintage event unfortunately isn’t one of them.

Dirt Track

The Dirt Track circuit will not be available.

Sidecars

At CD4, provision was made in the program for an outing by the sidecar brigade, but none turned up! We may be able to make some time available again at CD5 but we need to know beforehand, so please contact Ken (details below) if you’re thinking about bringing along an outfit.

Pit Bikes/Mini Bikes

A very small number of young riders tore around the pits and parking areas at CD4 and were issued warnings. For the safety of all at CD5, this will not be tolerated at CD5 and offenders and their parents will be asked to leave the venue.

Security

Although the site is reasonably secure at night time, attendees are urged to attend to securing their own bikes and gear if left on site overnight.

Dogs

Dogs ARE NOT PERMITTED anywhere on site. No ifs, buts or maybes unless it’s a registered guide dog.

Please contact Ken Smith ken@vmxmag.com.au or by phone on 02 9452 1444 for any general enquiries.
